\n The appellation “Cross Currents International Ministries” embodies the\n stratagem of Spiritual Warfare, of Christian Renewal and of Church\n Mission.\n

\n
Cross
\n

\n It was at the cross where Jesus died that Satan became the defeated foe,\n “. . . that by [going through] death He might bring to naught and make of\n no effect him who had the power of death─that is, the devil” Hebrews 2:14\n Amplified Bible.\n

\n

\n It is at the cross the believer was identified with the Lord Jesus. God\n has pronounced death upon everything we received from Adam; death to\n self─to self-centred living and to reputation. The Lord Jesus made Himself\n “of no reputation.”\n

\n

\n It is because of the cross that CCIM understand the whole Church is One\n body and any self-promoting organization or denomination that lives in a\n water-tight compartment will ultimately quench the free-flow of the Holy\n Spirit. That is why CCIM considers itself to be a service oriented\n ministry.\n

\n
Currents
\n

\n “He brought waters out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like a\n river.” Psalm 78:15. When Moses smote the rock at Horeb there came forth\n water. Likewise after God the Father smote God the Son, for your sin and\n mine at Calvary, 50 days later on the day of Pentecost there flowed from\n heaven the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit. Consequently, we are\n taught in the New Testament that there is an eternity of difference\n between ‘digging a canal’ in the energy of the flesh and ‘following a\n river’ in the power of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ.\n

\n
International
\n

\n The marching order of the Risen Christ to His disciples was: “Go ye,\n therefore, and teach [evangelize] all nations, baptizing [enlist] in the\n name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching\n [educate] them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and,\n lo, I am with you always [enablement], even unto the end of the world\n [exaltation]” Math 28:19. At His glorious and universal exhalation, the\n Lord Jesus will be acclaimed as “King of kings and Lord of lords.” Until\n then, we are to evangelize, enlist and educate all in the power of His\n enablement.\n

\n
Ministries
\n

\n The commission that Paul gave to his son in the faith, Timothy, was the\n same commission that Richard Bennett received from his father in Christ,\n Stephen Olford: “PREACH THE WORD.” CCIM encourages the teaching of God’s\n Word, book by book, chapter by chapter and verse by verse: “The entrance\n of Thy words bringeth light” Psalm 119: 130. In a spiritually deluded and\n dark world, CCIM is committed to “Preach God’s Word.” But we remember that\n the Word is unprofitable if it is “not mixed with faith.” So we realize\n that to teach the mind─in and of itself, is not sufficient! Unless God’s\n Word penetrates the mind to the will and there produces an act of faith\n and obedience, it is of no profit!\n

\n

\n Surely the need of this critical hour among most of us in our lukewarm\n church of today is a radical change of mind─toward ourselves and our love\n of comfort; or to sin which so easily besets us; and towards the world\n with its enticing glamour. That is why preaching to the will is imperative\n in the cause of Christ. Paul testified “Knowing therefore the terror of\n the Lord, we do persuade men” 2 Corinthians 5:11. In these days of social\n acceptability there is little persuasion in personal evangelism. To\n persuade is not to dominate the will as a gospel salesman, it is to\n encourage by every means possible the person or the congregation concerned\n to use their own will to bend before the person of our Lord Jesus Christ\n in the matters that concern them.\n

\n Even though Cross Current International Ministries (CCIM) was not\n officially established until 1980, in essence, CCIM was birthed 22 years\n earlier at the wedding of Richard and Dorothy Bennett in June of 1958. Dr.\n Stephen Olford conducted the service.\n

\n\n

\n A look back at their 60 plus years of their ministry together, can\n certainly be traced to the day they recited their wedding vows and\n committed themselves together to serve the Lord in full time ministry. In\n retrospect, Pastor Olford’s message entitled,\n “Together in Love, Together in Life, Together in Labor”, was\n truly a confirmation of God’s calling on their lives to\n “Preach the Word”. The Bennett’s have remained faithful to that\n calling for over six decades!\n

\n\n 1958-1969\n\n

\n In the early years of their united ministry in England, Dr. and Mrs.\n Richard A. Bennett:\n

\n\n \n \n Pioneered Home Evangelism in connection with Church crusades throughout\n the UK.\n \n \n Taught regularly at Capernwray Bible School.\n \n \n Taught at Evangelical Students Missionary Association conferences and\n Bible school ministries across Europe including to the persecuted Church\n ‘behind the Iron Curtain’.\n \n \n Ministry over Trans World Radio/Europe commenced.\n \n \n Missionary Radio (MRI) was incorporated in the state of New Jersey,\n November 17th 1969.\n \n \n\n 1970-1982\n\n \n \n Missionary Radio Incorporated carries the Bennett’s ministry of the Word\n to people on five continents via missionary radio broadcasts.\n \n \n Missionaries, national pastors and laymen wrote for spiritual help and\n requested follow-up literature. In just one twelve month period, 5000\n spiritual inquiries from 47 different countries were answered by hand\n from just one weekly broadcast.\n \n \n 1978 Richard authors\n Food for Faith \n (formerly known as\n Bible Before Breakfast\n ).\n \n \n Overseas missionary journeys become more frequent and prolonged.\n \n \n Missionary Radio Inc. phases into a broader overseas ministry and so the\n name is changed to Cross Current International Ministries (CCIM) on\n November 3rd, 1980.\n \n \n\n 1983-1987\n\n \n \n 1983 Richard authors\n Your Quest for God \n which to date has been translated and released in 60+ languages.\n \n \n God’s hand of blessing is evident in unprecedented ways as CCIM\n continues to be a catalyst ministry in numerous countries emphasizing\n the priorities of evangelism, supplicatory prayer, revival, and solid\n Bible teaching with biblical Gospel presentations.\n \n \n\n 1988-Present\n\n \n \n Far-flung missionary journeys increase due to the wide response of the\n radio ministry. This encouraged national pastors, missionaries and\n national evangelists. Increasingly, CCIM’s evangelistic ‘tools’ were\n provided for nationals to undergird their own ministries in India,\n Africa, the Far East, Europe and the Middle East.\n \n \n Your Quest for God \n and\n Food for Faith \n continues to this day to be an ‘evangelistic tool’ and a major\n discipleship resource around the world via broadcasts, hard copy and\n Internet. The Bennett’s prayerfully seek God’s direction as the Holy\n Spirit leads in using these and other of their books in an audio format\n for radio listener’s follow-up and ministry in multiple languages to the\n persecuted Church.\n \n \n Richard writes\n Hope for the Hopeless \n an AIDS tract, but increasingly requested as a Salvation tract. This\n much-requested tract, now in 63 languages, is translated and distributed\n in multiple languages and is already widely used in printed format,\n Internet and in audio format.\n \n \n Dorothy’s Daily Devotional, \n is produced and broadcast in 13 languages for the three-year cycle of\n the 780 programs. Great potential exists to translate these inspiring\n devotionals into other languages for airing on the radio and by the\n Internet.\n \n \n Expansion of CCIM literature in Arabic and Middle East languages\n continues by radio and Internet.\n \n \n CCIM, in cooperation with Trans World Radio, launches an innovative ESL\n (English as a second language) version of\n Your Quest for God \n and\n Food for Faith \n for use on the internet ministry to China.\n \n \n CCIM enters the world of the Internet with the development and\n deployment of its own website.\n \n \n Ministry initiative to systematically translate and record audio\n versions of\n Your Quest for God, Food for Faith,\n Biblical Reality, Forward in Faith \n and\n Hope for the Hopeless \n into various languages for deployment on a digital platform developed by\n Trans World Radio.\n \n \n\n

\n CCIM’s influence and ministry impact includes churches, educational\n institutions, and Christian organizations around the world. Below is a\n partial list of requests for preaching/teaching opportunities, of the\n Bennett’s down through the years.\n

\n\n \n \n Trans World Radio (Swaziland, South Africa, Monte Carlo, Madison, New\n Jersey and Cary, North Carolina)\n \n \n Far East Broadcasting Corporation: Richard’s broadcasts from Manila in\n English to all India and, an FEBC Conference for Vietnamese workers at\n the fall of Saigon\n \n \n Torchbearers at Capernwray Hall, England as Conference Speaker and Bible\n School Teacher\n \n \n Prairie Bible Institute: Graduation Speaker and Mission Conferences\n \n \n Briercrest Bible Institute: Graduation Speaker, Mission Conferences and\n Ministry to Students\n \n \n Pambrum Bible College: Mission Conferences and Ministry to Students\n \n Toronto Bible College: Ministry to Students\n \n Christian and Missionary Alliance: Ministry to students at Regina\n Training College and at the Annual Pastor's Convention\n \n Eastern European Mission\n Greater European Mission\n German Intermissions\n Italian Intermissions\n \n Torrey Memorial Conferences, Southern California\n \n \n Word of Life Conferences, Schroon Lake, New York\n \n Navigator Conferences\n \n Campus Crusade at headquarters and elsewhere\n \n \n Inter Varsity Fellowship in various countries\n \n \n Open Doors with Brother Andrew at Leadership Conference and elsewhere\n \n \n The Faith Mission (Northern Ireland; Southern Ireland; Scotland)\n \n International Hospital Christian Fellowship\n \n Evangelische Omroep, (Hilversum, Holland national television and radio\n ministries)\n \n Operation Mobilization\n Youth with a Mission\n Christian Resource Management\n Wycliffe Associates\n Youth for Christ\n National Young Life\n \n Officers Christian Fellowship (Headquarters, Colorado: West Point; Pearl\n Harbor; Eglin Air Force Base, N.A.T.O. Headquarters in Europe and many\n other military bases)\n \n \n Keswick Ministries (10 South Africa cities; Jamaica; Canada; USA and\n others)\n \n Revival Challenge (South Africa)\n Lighthouse for Christ (Mombasa, Kenya)\n \n Youth Evangelism Ministry and Missionary Conferences (Mombasa, Kenya)\n \n \n The American Mission for opening Churches; Word of Life, USA and UK\n \n \n Ministry to Middle East Christians (Cyprus; Egypt and elsewhere)\n \n \n Also, multiple Bible Colleges and Seminaries in England, Germany,\n Switzerland etc.\n \n \n Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones: Ministry to his various Pastors Fellowships in\n Wales, UK\n \n \n Multiple Churches: Throughout Europe, North America and elsewhere. Plus\n a Pastorate in UK and Rhode Island USA\n \n \n\n

\n As the Bennett’s complete the journey the Lord has called them to, there\n is a great sense of urgency that time is short, and that they must do all\n they can through the leading and empowering of the Holy Spirit to use\n media to its fullest potential to advance the Gospel. CCIM and TWR signed\n a “Model Agreement” to ensure a lasting legacy is continued of the\n Bennett’s ‘Bible-centered’ ministries reaching so many lives around the\n world.\n

Washington
\n

\n "Do you remember me?" said Washington, a very happy Kenyan man.\n "We've met before" I responded. I did not remember just\n where or when it was. "Yes, the last time we met two years ago you\n gave me a Bible", he gleefully responded.\n

\n\n

\n Now it was my time to ask a question. "Oh -- what happened to you\n after you received your Bible?" I said. "Well, let me put it\n this way." my new friend responded, "I took my Bible home and\n began to read it to my family. And since we began to read the Bible\n together, Jesus has come to live in our house! And because Jesus has come\n to live in our house, we have been married in a proper way."\n

\n\n

\n Yes, the Bible does tell us that there will be a famine of the Word of God\n in the last days, and that was never more true than it is for multiplied\n millions of desperately poor Kenyans who can read English but have no\n Bible to read.\n

\n\n
Shadrach
\n\n

\n Let me tell you about Shadrach! Shadrach lives in Kenya and as a boy was\n afflicted with polio. When Dorothy and I met him his legs were spindly\n as  match sticks as his torso sat at the edge of a dusty pavement.\n Hung over his back was a torn small backpack in which all his worldly\n possessions were stored. He showed them to us -- a few gospel tracts, a\n small writing pad, a pencil and a few pieces of string.\n

\n\n

\n Shadrach's hands were the only means of shuffling his torso down the\n pavement. Dorothy noticed that his bloodshot eyes were the result of his\n constantly rubbing them with his dusty hands. At Dorothy's suggestion\n I hastened to get an eye wash only to return to find Dorothy sitting on a\n fragile box beside him. As she washed his eyes we soon learned that\n Shadrach was our brother in Christ who truly loved the Lord Jesus.\n

\n\n

\n We gave Shadrach a few Kenyan shillings as he told us he never begged but\n trusted the Lord Jesus to provide his meager daily sustenance of food. He\n was very grateful for the few shillings! But when we gave Shadrach a\n Bible, he was ecstatically excited. He caressed it and kissed it as a\n mother would her child!\n

\n\n

\n The last but one time that we saw Shadrach, Dorothy and I prayed for him:\n "Lord Jesus You know Shadrach needs a new shirt and a new pair of\n trousers." His trousers and shirt were torn and dirty to the point of\n being unrespectable. "And you know dear Lord, I could provide\n Shadrach with this need of his, but if I were to do that, I would become\n his source of supply and when Dorothy and I leave tomorrow, his source of\n supply will go with us. So I pray in Jesus' name, that You will give\n Shadrach a new shirt and pair of trousers in such a way that he knows it\n comes from You and that You will continue to supply his frugal needs even\n when Dorothy and I have to leave."\n

\n\n

\n We saw Shadrach just one more time as he had propelled his torso down the\n street to the spot on the sidewalk where we first met him. Excitedly, he\n gesticulated for us to come and speak with him. Pulling his backpack from\n his shoulder, he opened it to reveal a brand new shirt and a brand new\n pair of trousers!\n

\n\n

\n "I don't know who it was" said Shadrach, but as a stranger\n passed by -- it might have been a man or an angel, I don't know, but\n look what he dropped in my lap." And then he proudly displayed his\n new shirt and trousers.\n

\n\n

\n Yes, Shadrach was very happy that he would now be respectably dressed. But\n his joy over the shirt and trousers was nothing to be compared with the\n ecstatic joy that he displayed when he received his very own Bible.\n

\n\n
Bibles For Africa
\n\n

\n Draught was prevalent throughout Kenya as Dorothy and I arrived to teach\n at a Pastors Conference. We were accompanied by a team of American\n Christians who would drill water wells. We were privileged to teach 100\n pastors who would be gathering. Many of the 100 pastors were recent\n converts and God had blessed their testimonies resulting in new churches\n being birthed.\n

\n\n

\n A hand full of pastors had walked for 17 hours in the Equatorial sun and\n the parched landscape to have the opportunity of being taught the Word of\n God.\n

\n\n

\n But, can you imagine it, the majority of these precious pastors did not\n have a Bible?  What a privilege it was to give each pastor a Bible.\n We then began to teach: "It's not enough to have a Bible in your\n hand, it's not enough to read it and get it in your head, I want to\n tell you how to read it and get it from your hand to your head to your\n heart."  Although the pastors were excited to have a stodgy\n plate of carbohydrates, over which was poured a thin pretense of gravy,\n there is no way to describe their absolute joy of receiving the very \n "bread of Life" -- a copy of  the Word of God for\n themselves. Neither is there a way to describe the absolute dearth of\n Bibles in Kenya where it is commonly known that "the church is a 100\n miles wide and an inch deep"!\n

\n\n
The Stick Lady on the Ground
\n\n

\n On the way to a Pastor's Conference where we were to teach 100\n country pastors, my wife, because of intense spinal problems, was unable\n to traverse the country trail in a vehicle. So, with our translator, we\n walked together down a trail through the forest for the last 3 to 4 miles.\n On the horizon we noticed what appeared to be a moving bundle of \n wooden sticks. As it approached we saw this heavy burden was carried on\n the bent-over back of a fragile African lady. They call them the\n "stick ladies"! My wife said, through our translator, "Why\n don't you lay down your heavy burden and we will talk\n awhile."  The stick lady fell backwards with her back falling on\n the bundle of sticks in order to free herself. Then Dorothy took one of\n the sticks and said "I want to tell you about the One who made the\n forest from which this stick came", and as she talked other stick\n ladies came down the trail, dropping their heavy burdens.\n

\n\n

\n One of the team, who was there to drill water wells, was sent to find some\n food and produced on a tray but a few slices of bread commanding:\n "Divide the slices in half as there is not enough to go around for\n everybody and only the most hungry can be given bread!" Dorothy\n looked at the starving bodies who were suffering from a lack of food\n caused by a severe draught. Knowing that the stick ladies could not\n understand her English, Dorothy said "I believe that the Lord will\n make provision to feed these ladies even if He has to turn the tray into a\n loaf of bread.". Reluctantly, the ladies pushed each other forward\n and hesitantly came for the bread until Dorothy was handing out the last\n piece. Suddenly, the supplier of the bread arrived with plenty for all and\n everybody had some physical nourishment. Talk about feeding the 5000!\n

\n\n
The Stick Ladies
\n\n

\n Each evening at the same trail, increasing numbers of stick ladies\n gathered as Dorothy expounded the Word of God for 1 to 2 hours. By the\n last evening between 4-500 ladies gathered on a nearby hillside. We never\n did get to the ladies meeting. The ladies came to the stick ladies\n meeting!\n

\n\n

\n We will never forget the last night when with ecstatic joy, the stick\n ladies responded to the Lord Jesus and received Him into their hearts and\n lives and began to sing in African harmony, praises to their new found\n Savior, and thanksgiving for the precious Bibles which we had been able to\n place in their hands.\n

\n\n

\n As the stick ladies disappeared into the African sunset, those ladies who\n were nicely dressed  for the planned pastor's wives\n meeting,  helped lift the bundles of sticks back onto the stick\n ladies shoulders and assisted them on their way back to their villages. We\n said: "Now we have seen living example of what it means to bear one\n another's burdens".\n

\n\n

\n There are millions of people who long for the Word of God Who is the Bread\n of Life. The Lord alone will continue to feed their souls until they see\n Jesus face to face!\n
